Rectory Renovation

The Rectory was built in 1903 and its last major renovation was in 1920, with minor upgrades in the 1960s and 1990s. We will rebuild the "annex" bedrooms, renovate the kitchen, upgrade the electricity, install an accessible first-floor bathroom, and fix damages caused by several leaks. Investing and upgrading the Rectory is essential for the future of the church, both to attract and retain top-notch clergy and to serve as a place of intersection and connection for the community.

A renovated rectory with upgraded kitchen, bathroom, and annex spaces will be among the church's greatest long-term assets. The Rectory is the principal attraction for clergy to the Church of the Ascension, which will enable the church to attract and retain talented clergy.

There is a deep pattern of relationships pressed into this community that is hungry for a gathering spot. A renovated Rectory space will field several well-attended events each season and become a point of intersection and connection for the community.

A Prime Location

The view from the Rectory has made it an ideal location for church picnics for decades. A newly refurbished septic system and shoreline protect the water quality of the lake, and a publicly accessible bathroom on the first floor will improve the property as a space to host community events.

Annex Rebuild

The 1920 "annex" bedrooms are pulling away from the main building because its foundation is rotted. We will demolish the annex, clear the rot that has crept through the main building, and use the annex footprint to rebuild a first-floor bathroom, mudroom, and a flex bedroom/office space.

Kitchen Renovation

We will tear out the damage caused by a water leak through the kitchen ceiling from the second-floor bathroom, and we will use the renovation as an opportunity to upgrade the kitchen space, reconfiguring it in conjunction with the annex rebuild.

Updating the Electric

We will update the electric system during the annex rebuild and kitchen renovation to bring it up to code. The existing system has been patched together over decades with varying degrees of attention. This portion of the Rectory renovation may be the most essential for the safety and longevity of the space.
